The sauna
The Wild Shed sauna is designed in the UK by Alistair Reid and Tim Bowles and hand-crafted in Lithuania by a studio well versed in creating an authentic sauna experience. The sauna is internally clad in luxurious knot-free thermo aspen wood, with the same wood used for benches and a natural wood for flooring with good air flow and drainage. With our large panoramic window everyone is able to view the changing seasons outside whilst enjoying the heat from the stove. The sauna can fit up to 14 people but for a community session we limit this number to 10 people and 12 people for a private session to ensure comfort and space for all.
The benefits of saunas are now well proven and include:
Contrast therapy
An ancient practice that has roots across the world, hot-cold therapy is the practice of alternating between heat exposure and cold immersion. While it’s often praised for its physical benefits, many people are drawn to it for something deeper: a feeling of clarity, presence, and belonging—both to themselves and to a community. Switching between hot and cold taps into primal biology. It trains the autonomic nervous system, helping regulate stress, sleep, and mood. That’s why so many people say they feel alive, awake, or even emotional after a session. It’s a kind of reset—physiologically and emotionally.
At Wild Shed we have cold showers and two Urban Ice Tribe tubs – both filtered and maintained to ensure clean, safe water and both temperature controlled. Please be mindful when entering cold water, especially if you are new to this ritual. Less is more.
